The Programming Hothouse is a unit within the Wits Radio Academy, whose aim is to develop innovative radio programming to improve public information and discussion in a range of areas. The shows explore innovative radio production techniques to combine civic education on important basic information with a critical, more journalistic approach. Our programming is available on Voice of Wits (VoW) 88.1, as podcasts and on a growing number of partner radio stations.

In many cases, our arrangements involve co-productions with partner stations, which means that elements of the original show, produced live on VoW, are used for local versions. This means that the issue can be explored in a way that is relevant to local audiences, allowing for questions to be addressed in the languages they are most comfortable with and with local experts. The model also helps build production capacity at the partner stations.
