Power Reporting: the African Investigative Journalism Conference
The 2011 conference was held at Wits University from Monday 31 October to Wednesday 2 November. Over 230 people attended from across South Africa and 23 African countries.
Speakers included: ◊ Felicity Lawrence, award-winning writer on the food industry for the London Guardian. ◊ Amanda Cox of the New York Times on mapping the news (how to use data visualisation skills) ◊ John Vidal of the London Guardian, and OSI fellow Ken Silverstein on energy and climate change ◊ Martin Plaut, Africa Editor, BBC World Service, on radio ◊ Investigating SA’s police commissioner Bheki Cele, with Mzilikazi wa Afrika and Stephan Hofstatter, winners of the 2010 Taco Kuiper Award. Power Reporting: the African Investigative Journalism Conference is run by Wits Journalism in partnership with the Forum for African Investigative Reporters (FAIR) and supported by the Valley Trust, the Open Society Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. The conference forms part of the Global Investigative Journalism Network and is supported by Investigative Reporters and Editors (US) and the Centre for Investigative Journalism (UK)
