A Gambian activist detained by the authorities after peacefully expressing his views has been released – but there is still no news about a journalist missing for seven years, Amnesty International says.

Editor and journalist charged with publishing falsehoods

Dumisani Muleya, editor of the Zimbabwe Independent and chief reporter, Owen Gagare, were on Tuesday, 7 May 2013 arrested and charged with publishing or communicating false statements prejudicial to the state. They were later released by police.

Last chance to enter SADC contest

It's 10 days to go before the closing date for entries for the SADC Media Awards for South Africa. The South African media is encouraged to submit their entries before the deadline of 30 April 2013.
